I like this technique - it's very appealing to the eye the way it frames most of the box and cuts the color off the edge, leaving the other side open. It creates the illusion of great space, and focuses you in on the center. The paler portions outside the box only catch the eye after, but that makes the overall picture more intriguing. Even the itty-bitty lines of text (I think?) at the bottom work well because they round out the picture. Far too complicated for me to use (but you know how I feel about such things), but much appreciated all the same on an aesthetic level.
Thank you! :) I'm experimenting with new stuff and I think I'm on to something here, if do I say so myself. That is not to say that I'm alltogether satisfied, but I am fairly new to this whole transparency thing so one can't expect too much. The text is from the screenplay to Dune, the movie. I was wanting to make some icons from that too, but I don't own it so I can't cap it. I'll have to look elsewhere. Anyway, as far as the textbrush go, I'd like it to be a little more subtile. Alas, I have found only two modes in the .gif format so far; 'there' and 'not there'. This represents a problem. I'm very happy that you like them, aesthetically. Yes I know what you mean by complicated, and since my goal here was 'clean' and simple it means a lot that you think so :)
These are spectacular. I've never seen this technique but it's extremely effective. You get the best of both black and white as well as judicious amounts of color. Really, you are remarkably talented. I've snagged the icon of the planet, and will give all due credit when I use it. Thank you.
I found a few nifty-looking sites!! 1) This (http://www.ka-gold-jewelry.com/p-articles/dune.php) is actually just someone's jewelry inspired by the books/show, but still really cool! 2) Dune - Behind the Scenes (http://www.duneinfo.com/) seems like the most rich resource so far. 3) This (http://www.dunenovels.com/) seems to be the official website.
And that's all I have now, cause I gotta go. :D :D
These are so neat! It looks like colorful screens have been put up in front of black and white scenes. *wide eyed at all the pretty icons* I like the blue one with green moon, and the one with white woman in red background. I'll be saving a few. I'll be sure to credit. Thank you. :)
Thank you, that's so nice of you to say! (I still recommend this series...)
Interesting choice. The blue one would be Chani, Moad'dib's concubine, the one he really loves. The other one is his wife Irulan, they married for political reasons. Sorry if I'm spoiling here-
After looking over your Dune icons, I think I am going to read it, and if I get a chance, watch the movie. :) I don't mind a bit of spoilers. So no worries... Thanks for the recommendation. It'd be interesting to look at these icons again, after I've either read or watched the show. I wonder how they'd look when I have more background knowledge. *grin*
*glomps you* Good thing you like it, you are probably going to hear more about it than you appreciate... ;) There are some things that I just can't make to work!! You know how I get when I'm unable to do stuff. Just warning you - ;)
Smashing. No, really, these are fabulous! Not that I have any clue on what it's all about, but technically they're great (in my not so humble opinion) and aesthetically they're very much appealing. Me likey very big! :D

These remind my of a wide-screen film. I've chosen four to keep and I will credit you when I use them, as always. Thank you! :D

I'm flattered that you like them.

You wouldn't happen to know where I can find some good quality caps from the movie, do you?
